IP MAN (2008) and IP MAN 2 (2010) screenwriter Edmond Wong has recently revealed that martial-art superstar Donnie Yen will return as the Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man in the long-rumored sequel, IP MAN 3. That's not all, the third installment of the highly-lucrative IP MAN franchise will be also featured 3D effects for the first time! According to Yen's publicist, Yen is thrilled to work on a 3D version of IP MAN 3, and had entered into preliminary discussions with the movie's producer, Raymond Wong, even though he haven't seen the script yet.
The story for IP MAN 3 will centers on Ip Man's famous student, martial-art legend Bruce Lee. According to Edmond Wong, the role of Bruce Lee will plays a big part in the story, even though Ip Man remain the movie's central character. Here's what he had to say below.
What is certain is that the film will begin with Bruce Lee becoming Ip Man's disciple. As for who will play Bruce Lee, we will have to do a large-scale casting exercise. Stars like Aarif Lee and Danny Chan are suitable and have played Bruce Lee before, but we are looking for a 16-17 year-old Bruce Lee. They may be a little too old. It is all up to Wilson Ip (the film's director) to decide.
Producer Raymond Wong also added that IP MAN 3 will have much bigger budget than the previous two movies, as it will feature fight scenes enhanced with 3D effects. The movie is set to start rolling towards the end of the year.
