British actor Patel met her on the sets on Danny Boyle's film and have been together ever since.
"With [Slumdog Millionaire], we went through the same experience together and no one will ever know - not even our friends and family - what that was like," she said in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald.
When asked as Internet speculation has suggested - they have secretly married, she said, "No, we're not married. I can't even imagine we'll be married in five years… OK, I'm saying no right now; tomorrow I might surprise you. Who knows?"
She admitted that although her career has been on an upward trajectory post 'Slumdog', Patel's career has been significantly quieter.
"We have to deal with it and it hasn't been the easiest," she said.
"I literally did four films in 11 months and I hardly got to see him. But we know these things are part and parcel of the relationship - especially being in a relationship with an actor," she added.
The Indian actress, who hogged the limelight with Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, has said that the 2008 Oscar-sweeping film changed her life completely.
The Rise of the Planet of the Apes star also said that she "was a drama queen" in her childhood days and always knew that acting, in some form, was on the cards.
The 26-year-old played Latika in Slumdog Millionaire.
"The most obvious way is through the opportunities I've had," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted her as saying.
"I wouldn't be doing the Rise of the Planet of the Apes or talking to you if that film hadn't come along," she added.
Freida Pinto has revealed that though she is living "all over the world" nowadays, she wants to own a house in Mumbai one day.
The star, who grew up in Mumbai and rose to fame with Danny Boyle's 2008 Oscar-sweeping film Slumdog Millionaire, said she invested some money on a flat in Mumbai when she received her first significant pay cheque but the sale never went through.
"I'm still looking for that one place where I can put my name at the door," she said.
"I know it's very ambitious at this point in time but I want homes in [Mumbai], London, New York and Montreal. A girl can dream," she added.
